I’m 19 and turning 20 and yet I understand what you guys are complaining about (justifiably)

Firstly, I, like most of my EX-co-workers, am living with my parents, working there part time and my all of my checks goes into my savings (mostly.) Why I am mentioning this is because I feel bad comparing our situation with people in need of their well earned check. Of course I can’t speak for all my co-workers and of their situation. My employers of half a year were non-existant mostly. The under managment was the face of the company for us and are well liked, justifiably. However the workers of this company have been cheated out of their money, let me explain. So every holiday where this company is closed they take their employees of the work schedule, which are their repeated shifts. That way they take advantage of their employees who don’t know their rights. This I do not abide. I sent them an email when I got…

Firstly,
I, like most of my EX-co-workers, am living with my parents, working there part time and my all of my checks goes into my savings (mostly.) Why I am mentioning this is because I feel bad comparing our situation with people in need of their well earned check.

I sent them an email when I got paid, with no holiday shifts included, that they must have made a mistake, I had already assumed that this was them abusing their employees rights but I was not rude so there wouldn’t be an issue. They gave the reason that one of their shift managers had just forgotten to take everybody of their shifts. For employees who don’t know their rights would find this acceptable. Unfortunately for them I am not one of them.

Just a side note I sent them a few more emails explaining why they are wrong but to no avail.

My father is a manager at a big company here in Iceland and had already confirmed that the shifts should be paid, when I asked him about at Christmas. So I contacted my union and explained the situation and they asked me to send a new email with them in the Cc. What do you know, I got the rest of my check right away and a reply to my new email that it had been fixed. This was not enough.

I sent a reply asking if every employee would get compensated. They claimed they would. Now almost a half a month later (I resigned after getting paid) I hear from employees who I let know of this “mistake” that they haven’t gotten paid yet. Should they just give them a bit more time even though they paid me right away? No, because one of them told me that the got unassigned from a repeating shift/s that was during Easter. Of course the company isn’t open during that time so they are up to their old tricks of abusing their employees.

Even though I quit early this February I contacted the union through our last email exchange and told them that they what I wrote in the last paragraph. I am still waiting for an answer but this is just infuriating. This “family owned” company are a bunch of cowards.

Thank you for reading my post, however many you are.
