Hey guys! I'd just like to start this off by saying that I've been reading this sub for about 6 months now, and I hope everyone who posts and comments can feel happy in the future!
I work in Minnesota in health care at a 24/7 group home. At the end of December my previous supervisor was fired (for legitimate reasons), and I was promoted to supervisor in her stead. The issue at this point, was that I was the only employee of my group home. We had a lot of other staff from the other group homes helping me out, but I was still working 120 hours every 2 weeks.
After awhile of that, we finally hired someone who will work the overnights every other week, which helped a bit, but I was still working 120 hours every 2 weeks.
The company I work for only pays their normal staff $14 an hour. We take care of literal human beings, and we get paid the same amount as Applebee's. Which is why we can't get any new hires. It's been 6 months since I became supervisor, and we hired only 1 person, which was the aforementioned overnight staff.
Now to current day. My schedule got readjusted. Every 2 weeks I work from 8am Monday until 8am Saturday, 120 hours straight, no time off, but I do get to sleep at night. Then get the rest of Saturday and Sunday off, but I have to go back to work on Monday and Tuesday for a total of 48 hours. I get Wednesday through Sunday off at this point, but I'm just recovering from the hours I worked at that point. Then I do it again the next 2 weeks.
To reiterate, I do 168 hours in 7 days, with 7 days off every 2 weeks. I'm doing a month of hours in 7 days every 2 weeks, or 2 months of work in 14 days every month.
I am currently 59 hours in on my 120 hours in a row shift. I have been so burnt out. I can't sleep properly at night anymore. The only thing keeping me going at this point has been the need to survive. But I have a bit of money saved up from all of these ungodly hours I'm forced to work, so I can take a few months off to just enjoy life.
This is very cathartic typing this out. But I have one last thing I need to say:
I'm doing all of this while also having Aspergers disorder (aka high functioning autism).
Sorry in advance for spelling or grammar mistakes, or if autocorrect screwed me over.
