Hello everyone! I’ve been following this sub for about a year, and I came to the US just one week ago and here’s my opinion on the current living conditions. (I settled in Connecticut, currently working in a gas station grocery).
- You guys (me too now) live in the best country you can live in in the history of mankind and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. You compare the US to European and Nordic countries on just one scale, government services. But everything else is literally better here.
- Freedom and liberty! Yes people sometimes joke about “MUH FREEDOM” but believe me when some customers start talking about Biden/Trump/Politics with me and I just want to look away and not be seen or heard discussing politics then I remember I am in the US and I can freely express my opinion, I think it’s one of the things you’ll only cherish and value if you lose it.
- Living costs. It always puzzles me when some customers buy 60 USD worth of chips, soda, and cigarettes and then fill their HUUUGE SUVS with gas, then they tell me “everything is getting so expensive nowadays”. Fuck just get a Camry or an Accord! Yes I agree inflation is fucking things up but you need to know one things: The US is least affected country by inflation, other countries are literally getting decimated economically.
- The people. You guys are the most positive, most motivated, friendliest people I have ever witnessed in my 30 years. And people tell me New Englanders are not friendly, I can’t imagine what it’s like deeper west or south lol.
- America is truly a shining city on a hill. The world outside is cruel and dark cold place, you’ll understand that when you’ve travelled to a few countries around.
Anyways, just my two cents. I hope the US has better and better days ahead.
