I’m at a loss. Should I end my contract?

I'd been working for a university as an editor/translator. For 10 months straight it was a reliable full-time job, but for the past 4–5 months, I haven't received any work to do. My paycheck last month was $0. I talked with my coordinator and he basically couldn't give me an answer about when I'll get work assigned again. Quitting seems obvious, but I have nothing else lined up and I'm having trouble finding another job. At the same time, I feel like it's a “low season” kind of thing, but I have a friend who's worked there a but longer than I have and he still gets work assigned from time to time. I don't know whether to quit or to wait until there's new work to do. Any advice is appreciated.
