I’m being forced to work with COVID, thanks Wyndham!

I’m gonna start with this, COVID is not gone. It’s still here, killing people and permanently scaring others. Even these new “less serious” variants can be deadly if the right person is infected. I had a family member almost die just 3 weeks ago. So no comments about how it’s a thing of the past, the media has turned into a silent killer. I’m high risk so not only is my anxiety sky rocketing for myself, I also have 2 children, a 2 year old and a 9 month old. Now for the story, I called into work at 8:30 this morning, 30 minutes before my shift but literally a minute after the test came back positive. My boss wasn’t there and the front desk said to call back later. I tried, no answer. I didn’t get ahold of someone until 5 minutes before my shift, and my boss was…

Now for the story, I called into work at 8:30 this morning, 30 minutes before my shift but literally a minute after the test came back positive. My boss wasn’t there and the front desk said to call back later. I tried, no answer. I didn’t get ahold of someone until 5 minutes before my shift, and my boss was mad at me for calling in that late and told me I HAD to be there tomorrow. “Just wear a mask” she said. I don’t have a problem with masks while I’m the grocery store or an air conditioned building. But at work I can’t. I’m a house keeper and that’s a physically demanding job. I have asthma and a mask while moving like that makes it impossible to breath. This is mostly because of how hot the hotel too. I can do it I just to relax a minute and have a space to take it off other wise I’ll not be able to breath for the rest of the day.

We’re also a passerby hotel as I like to call it, people stay for a night when they need a break from driving. Then they leave first thing in the morning.

This is the second time my job has put my health on the line. Last week a long term guest left and his room was FULL of mold. The room is going to be out of service for a week, but I was still told to go inside the room and vacuum. I’m struggling to find another job though or I’d be out.
