Tomorrow I'll be striking and joining a picket line for the first time in my life. I never thought it would get to this, but after working as a key worker during Covid and being given a real terms pay cut by a CEO who has raised his own pay by 32% we've had enough. I can't afford to strike, I'll probably have to use credit cards in the next few months, but I know I can't afford not to strike.
I have friends who will be breaking the strike and this is going to put me in a difficult position, but I believe we are doing the right thing by standing up for ourselves. We've been told that the company can't afford to pay us more, but have given £760 million to shareholders out of a profit of £1.3 billion. This doesn't add up, and shows the how little we are valued as employees.
If you're in the UK and see a BT/Openreach picket line (or any picket line, we're all in this together) give them a honk, a hello or stop for a chat.
No real point to this post, just wanted to vent, thanks for letting me do so.
