I’ve developed an expertise in an area for a decade. I don’t have to work that hard but am worth double elsewhere. However, those companies are afraid of being sued and I’d never get a reference. Because I helped build the business to surpass competitors, I’m told I am a walking trade secret. A year ago they pushed me out because nobody liked me but upon discovering I was applying for jobs said they made a mistake and we can work it out. It’s so awkward. I’m objectively paid enough to not complain but knowing I could make more builds resentment. I’m making others rich, am stuck in upper middle class, and I know they all hate me. Fortunately, I keep a sense of humor about stuff but my existence feels so awkward. If anyone out there has millions of dollars and an appetite for being sued, I can make you so much money we might get whacked though. Tbd.
