I am a bank teller, and I have been for over a year now. I started at $9.50 and hour and got a raise to $11/hr at my annual review.
Since this annual review where I was blessed with the same wage as my local Dunkin Donuts employees, I have had many responsibilities thrust onto me.
When I applied for this job, the description had me answering phones, utilizing the fax machine and printer, handling transactions, etc. Somehow I have also had handling IRAs, opening new accounts, modifying old accounts, and balancing the vault added to my lost of responsibilities for no extra pay.
These are all supervisor duties. I am not a supervisor. I do not get paid as a supervisor, and I recieve no insurance that the supervisor is entitled to.
I am done being something I'm not for the pay of a peasant. I take home MAYBE $900 a month, for the stress of having to run the teller line. This is unacceptable, and today I will be delivering unto the branch manager a letter that conveys that I will no longer be doing anything above my job description. I've applied to ~40 jobs in the past week and have recieved very little in terms of responses, but I don't care anymore. I'm not doing a job that I'm not being compensated for anymore.
Wish me luck.
(P.S. the position I applied for had no “other duties as assigned”)
