I don't see much use in floundering to survive in a country which, let's be honest, is run by wealthy individuals who undermine the will of the American voter by greasing palms in Congress enough to get their way anytime they feel like it. Lobbying has done so much to hamper the progress we continue to vote for that there are now more laws protecting the powerful from the weak than vice-versa, and I don't see that changing anytime soon – not within my lifetime, anyway.
Yes, I understand what is necessary in order to keep a roof over my head and the lights on, and I would be more than happy to comply, if there were more in it for me than simply paying rent in order to continue going to work. I understand that in a job, there are subordinates, there are peers, and there are superiors, and that it's important to do as you're told within the confines of good reason. I accept those terms, as well. What I cannot abide is being treated/spoken to with total disrespect by those who have seniority over me, because they've learned from an increasingly inhumane workforce how little recourse their subordinates have in mitigating abusive treatment. They have this notion that their employees need them too badly to stand up for themselves and risk the potential consequences, so they have no qualms about issuing mistreatment with whatever measure of impunity they deem appropriate.
It's not that I despise the idea of work, it's that the juice isn't really worth the squeeze for a growing number of us; none of us want to go to a workplace which takes advantage of us, abuses us, and pays us only enough to scrape by on to keep us dependent on our roles in making cruel people wealthier. Shit's all fucked.
