I’m so glad I gave two weeks

I see a lot of people here say “2 weeks notice is a courtesy, don't do it” and “just leave.” Well let me tell you, I just finished riding out my two weeks notice and it was the most calming, relaxing, enjoyable two weeks I've ever worked. It was basically free money. I made a few flow charts in Visio to guide them when I left, and passed on a few step-by-step instructions I had already created that were for myself. I left due to upper management. I was middle management. If I just left, would I hurt the company? Sure. But I'd also hurt the team I spent 5 years working with. They've got to continue the job without me, which is going to be rough enough. Why make it harder for them?

Oddly, I was given a $1.5k bonus for leaving. This confused me. I'm guessing the upper management felt bad for all the bullshit and decided to do something nice for me before I left.

I left an opening to return on Saturdays for 3x my current hourly rate with a minimum of 8 hours a day ($1k/day).

I had a job lined up after this one that starts 3 weeks after my two weeks notice starts. The new company, I imagine, respects that I have to give my old job 2 weeks notice.

Anyways, all this to say that just up-and-leaving is not always the correct decision. Treat a two weeks notice as a holiday.
