I’m tired of being called selfish for not working a minimum wage job

I live in a bad part of town, so there’s hardly any places available (let alone jobs) and the only jobs currently available are minimum wage ($7.25-9.00) and/or are very dangerous working environments (constantly on the news for being robbed, a death scene, a shootout etc) and I now avoid these jobs because they literally aren’t worth it. I constantly experience lack of decent job opportunities based on where I live. And before people say “a job is a job”, I have worked at a restaurant on/off for 4 years (amongst other jobs) and my highest wage was $8.10/hr there, even though I was a trainer!! Gas cost about $300-400 every two weeks and I was eventually paying to go to work at some points and had to constantly eat food from work just to make ends meet. Once I file taxes, I’m saving my money until I get a job with a relevant wage. I honestly get paid more in refund checks from college than a dead-end job that overworked me for peanuts.
