I’m trying to job hunt but I’m running into issues with interviews because I am autistic.

So far I've only been to two interviews but I've been denied because I either came across as anxious or timid. Today I applied for a security position and mentioned that I had a few write ups at Amazon for productivity but I really didn't think that would've been a problem with security? The interviewer kept asking if I had any more questions about the job and I didn't because I felt like I understood the job responsibilities from the job description I had already. I assumed that's what they needed? I don't know why things like if I have hobbies or pets would be relevant to the hiring process. I asked if she liked working there and I think that was right. But I got the response almost immediately that she didn't feel like I'd be a good fit because I am timid and mentioned previous job issues. I don't think I'm the only autistic person to have these issues though. I've gotten some advice from other autistic friends but I am starting to think that the job interview process is like that just to weed out autistic people while getting around the ADA.
Is it a good idea to mention I'm autistic in interviews? I've always heard it isn't but maybe interviewers would be more understanding if I did mention it?
