Immediately terminated after giving notice that I quit while on medical leave, is this normal?

So was recently on medical leave and found a new job. I let my employer know 2 weeks before my new job started. I didn’t have an exact date as to when I was supposed to return from leave (between 8 and 12 weeks) so I figured that at the 8 week mark, that would be a good time to let my employer know I wouldn’t be coming back. Anywho, I emailed my notice and was told someone would be in contact with me in regards to my off boarding. 1 week later I was told that alllllllllll my benefits had been turned off as of the day I gave my notice of departure. I was also told this policy was in the company handbook. I’m not debating weather or not the policy was there (although I was unaware of it) but I just want to know if this is…

I’m not debating weather or not the policy was there (although I was unaware of it) but I just want to know if this is a normal procedure for someone quitting a job while on medical leave? I’ve never known this to happen to anyone else so I’m just curious.
