The problem with boycotting business is it is so rampant and difficult on a united front to have an impact. I made my frequent quick run to the grocery to get a few things I need and my favorite self check out lady is still there needing to lean on the machines to get through the day.
I desperately want it to be ok for her to sit down, but not just her. It is inhuman to force people to stand all day when their job could easily be done from a high chair or stool that makes for easy get up and move when needed. The only thing I can think of is shaming companies.
Make it super public that this is inhuman. Really highlight extreme situations. The problem with this is we are likely an echo chamber. Sure our opinion may be more popular but the average person does not like to stick their neck out.
I genuinely feel if the public started to shame companies for this practice it would have an effect. Public image and being seen as inhumane is something a lot of companies do respond to especially if it is something cheap and simple like allowing cashiers and other retail workers to sit at their stations.
I simply lack the social media expertise to be effective. Can we as a community brainstorm for an effective solution?
