In preparation for a CEO walkthrough, my manager instructed us to “be grateful for our jobs”

I work at a smaller pharmacy chain that was recently acquired by a huge national chain. We had a CEO walkthrough, because I’m assuming they wanted to see how things were going and to check on their investment. We are chronically short staffed…but not on the day of the walkthrough! They made sure that we had plenty of help. People came in from other locations. I’m assuming this is to give the impression that everything is running smoothly to our new corporate overlords. Anyways, in preparation for this walkthrough, our manager was coaching us on how to act. Smile, laugh at their jokes, etc. She said that we don’t want to give the CEO the impression that “we aren’t grateful for our jobs”. I asked her if she thought that the CEO should be grateful that we work here, and she told me to stop having such a bad attitude.…
