Currently work in a slightly specialised feild in the UK (related to law). Have been with current company for 6 years, during that time all I have had is annual pay rises in line with inflation. I've recently been contacted for, and successful with, a job interview for what is a similar role, slightly more specialised, and a resounding 25% pay bump.
My only worry is leaving the job I currently have, my boss is genuinly great, good training, no micromanagement, empathetic, allows holidays with no issue, essentially the best boss I have had. We've also worked fully from home for over 2 years now, with what looks like no view on returning to the office. I also know the company and my role inside out, so my days are pretty relaxed. The pay is the only issue I have, as with every performance review I've “only just missed out on exceeds expectations” which would result in more pay. Having that 5 years in a row, with no room for promotion, feels a bit like a smack in the face.
The new role, as I say, is 25% more per year than I'm earning currently, with very much the same benefits package. Still WFH, with 1 day a month or so in the office, and Bi-annual travel to Europe. Growing company, room for promotion, . I got offered the role while in the interview, which usually I would be ecstatic with. But, I've not felt anything for this new role probably because I wasn't looking for anything new and this just fell into my lap. To get the pay bump I lied to the recruiter who asked for my wage, telling him I was on £5k more than I am, and that I'd only move for £5k above that, both of which were accepted.
I've yet to tell my current boss I've been offered a position elsewhere, and I'm yet to accept the offer on the table from the new company. I'm totally in two minds of what to do, I have it so easy at my current job, but moving for the money would significantly benefit my finances. I'm really not looking forward to telling my Boss about the offer. I genuinly think she may cry. But, if my currebt company offer a match of pay I'll be pretty pissed off, because why the fuck would they not pay me that anyway.
Anyway, hope someone reads this. If you have any viewpoints please share.
