Recently several family members have had their health decline drastically, and I was looking to leave my current job for a career more aligned with my goals and to help my family (more healthcare related not financial). With this in mind I had planned to put my two weeks in with my current job. It started with a 25-30 minute conversation with my boss having a “candid” conversation about recent feedbacks (people complaining of long wait times due to being short staffed). I was basically told that I was harming the team and the company, and things needed to change. Despite that for about 2 weeks myself and another coworker were the only 2 people holding everything together. During the conversation I waited patiently and participated professionally with asking clarifying questions (and asking how to improve my performance). Then right as the meeting was going to be concluded I let my manager know that I was putting my 2 weeks in.
Shit then started to get really wild. With my manager asking me really detailed questions on why I’m leaving and stated that my family (especially my parents should be doing more for my family members and are not doing enough). Afterwards my manager stated that it is unfair that I should throw my “career” away for my family and tried to manipulate me into getting angry at my family. I should also note that I had let the company know that I would likely leave after about a year. The company is really hurting for staff, so they will at least be fucked for a while.
