If you thought Covid 19 shut NYC down, just wait until the Realty Advisory Board on Labor doesn’t offer the Engineers Union a fair contract forcing Union workers to go on strike.
For those of you who don’t know what the IUOE provides the city allow me to explain.
IUOE Local 94 represents more than 5,000 men and women responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation and repair of the Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning and all other mechanical systems in public, private, residential and commercial buildings throughout NYC. Most of these buildings are 24/7 365 operations. These men and women sacrifice holidays, birthdays, weekends and time with friends and family to serve the city.
•September 11th, 2001 – September 11th 2001
-The engineers are the 1st line of defense in a building fire before the FDNY shows up.
• Covid 19 – The engineers despite the majority of the world getting to WFH, they didn’t have that option. The engineers kept the city going and kept the doors open so that employers could collect their rent.
Why did you need engineers in empty buildings?
- Pipes could freeze then burst in the winter causing floods.
- No A/C in the summer, could cause Indoor Air Quality Issues
- If no one is using sinks, toilets then fowl odors will be present leading to the infestation of rodents.
The engineers run buildings efficiently which helps with energy conservation which also helps companies save money.
Local 94 Engineers Union is the backbone to this city. Schools, Residential and Commercial buildings are all running because local 94 maintains them.
