Interviewed today for a $17/h job

In my field at my last job I was $24/h but this position looked potentially interesting. Was for a Marketing Associate for a local business. PT 25 hours a week, 5 hours per day Mon – Fri. The interviewer was the owners daughter and was very kind and lovely. But I don’t know if the job is for me… She grilled me for over an hour with questions that went from “do you have any phobias?” to highly technical and complex questions. This position isn’t just doing basic marketing tasks – it’s also being the company photographer, videographer, social media manager, social media customer service, google analytics, blog writer, graphic design, website updates and content, and also helping with retail tasks and admin. She grilled me for over an hour with questions that went from “do you have any phobias?” to highly technical and complex questions.

This position isn’t just doing basic marketing tasks – it’s also being the company photographer, videographer, social media manager, social media customer service, google analytics, blog writer, graphic design, website updates and content, and also helping with retail tasks and admin.

Is it just me or do so many places want someone to do the roles of like three people for such little pay?

When I asked how the company culture was she claimed it was a family and they needed someone who would fit into that mould.

She said they needed someone self motivated and independent – as the other staff is generally too busy to assist or answer too many questions.

I wouldn’t be allowed any days off until after Christmas and New Years.

After the interview I asked about the further recruitment process, and she asked me to send her multiple direct links to several different types of things I’ve done (video, blogs, socials, photography, etc) even though I’d sent her my portfolio with most of those things. Plus several references to see about my character and work ethic.

They are making a decision tonight or tomorrow apparently.

Part of me feels if they make me an offer I shoulddd accept it because I really need the income – but I see so many red flags from past experience. It’s not much pay for what seems like a very stressful and overworked position.

Any advice? Am I being unreasonable being cautious here?
