Is a 2 week notice still “the way” to quit?

Im not happy with my current jobs environment and team. I received an offer for a new company that have already welcomed me with open arms and I’m ready to start. The problem is I am afraid my company will let me go the day I put my notice in. I’ve worked there for almost two years and every person that has left is gone that day (I’m in cyber security so maybe relevant?). I can’t afford to have a long pay gap, so I am going to give a weeks notice. In a more “corporate” environment, do you think it matters? I’ve always been a person who gives a long notice aka when I know they know. I don’t want to burn a bridge, I did like some of my leadership – but I also can’t afford to get let go immediately if I give a two weeks. My…

My husband got let go last month with only four days notice and we’ve had to turn our entire life upside down from it.
