Is a key holder position worth a raise?

So this week while I was having my lunch. My manager gave me a key. I was confused and said “what's this for?' she replied with “it's to open the store when we open Saturdays.”. Which then she walked away. During my lunch I was thinking of it and I realized it's adding a lot of responsibility to my already loaded workload as I'm a safety representative for the first time and didn't really want this position of a key holder. Not only do I have to walk to work but my walk to work is 30 minutes, the weather conditions don't really help here in Canada . so I was thinking of a wage increase to compensate.

I finished my lunch and she just so happen to walk about on my way out and I asked her “so does this come with a wage increase of any sort?”. Which she said no to so I asked for one and she told me that she would have to talk to her boss about it.

Come the next day I get an email from my manager with her boss attached saying that the both of them had a brief discussion about it and told us to reach out her or her boss.

So later that day I asked the executive director (my managers boss) if he was firm on not giving me an increase in wage. He responded with “well when I was 14 I was given a key holder position and didn't receive a pay increase and not to be rude but you lock your door before you leave for work don't you? It's essentially the same thing.”. At that moment I didn't even try to counter argue I was so flustered because he was on the phone with his son.

So tomorrow morning when I walk in I think I'm giving the key back and respectfully saying I can't handle the workload without a pay increase. It's just to much to handle.
