i’m (19F) working at a cafe/restaurant (the same one i worked at last summer) just to make some money before i have to start doing internships for what i’m studying at school. i told the managers i would be coming on part time for the summer. one of them even asked me last week if it was okay to schedule me for 25-30 hours a week. i said yes because i think that is a solid amount and enough to make money but not too much where i don’t have a life outside of work. they posted my schedule for this week and i’m scheduled 40 hours, 9-5 wednesday through sunday.
40 hours is basically a full work week. i know i would be making more money, but i also have a decent amount saved from last summer and those are not part time hours. the in between shift times also make it so i have no time for anything else during the day because when i get home i’m exhausted, but i can’t do anything before work either. i feel bad saying something to my manager because we are very understaffed, but i feel like they’re taking advantage of me because i work hard and get a lot done during my shifts.
i don’t know if i’m being dramatic, or if i should say something to the manager. i’m getting mixed opinions from people. adults in my life are saying i should say something to the manager, but my friends are saying it’s fine because i’ll make bank and i’m kind of in the middle.
