My daughter has run into a situation at work that I find a little bit baffling.
She works as a standard W-2 employee Monday through Friday, 8 hours a day. The company (in CA) also requires that she does occasional overnights on call in which she takes a work phone home.
She missed a call at 1 AM because she was sleeping and did not hear the phone ring and they are setting up a meeting with an HR rep to take corrective action.
On top of this she does not get paid for that time on call but gets $100 stipend each month for it. Something about this is not sitting right with me, I have no real insight.
