I work for a large company that just announced they're forcing people back into the office despite the pandemic still on-going and the inevitable fall/winter COVID case spike.
During 2021 they went on a hiring spree and it was pretty widely known that a good chunk of the workforce moved to more affordable parts of my country. The overwhelming majority of coworkers (even directors and middle management) strongly prefer WFH from company surveys and are much more productive WFH (hell we even make record profits in the last 2 years).
Forcing people back in the office during the downturn in the markets feels like they're trying to get people living further out to quit so they don't have to do layoffs and avoid having to give severance. While I live downtown by my workplace, it would literally be impossible for some of my coworkers to make it to the office location without a 6-10 hour round-trip. People who have been in the office already pretty much say it's just for socializing and a giant waste of time because they're still having to videocall for meetings with other branches
Does anyone else feel this way?
