Okay, so I'm asking this on behalf of fiance. She is a dentist and about five years ago she was terminated from her position at one of those corporately owned dental places. Think Aspen Dental. That's not where she worked exactly but it was something fairly similar. That being said, these places have a tendency to be very shady to all involved. This includes staff and patients. In fact, my fiance's experience working at one these places along with some awful stories that she has heard through the grapevine from some of her colleagues about some of these places have compelled her to tell others to avoid these places like the plague if you need dental work.
Now to the nitty gritty. It was almost five years ago exactly when, for not wanting to push dental work on patients who didn't need it she was let go. They constantly would tell her that she's not producing enough and would regularly imply that she should be telling people they need things that they really didn't. Ultimately this led to them firing her right before the holidays. The subsequent weeks/months she would call and email them so she could finally receive her final paycheck that she was owed. Going there in person was not an option because paychecks didn't even come from the office itself, they came from a corporate building located in another part of the country and the office was an hour away from where she lived at the time. It was extremely frustrating since it was her first year out of dental school and she could've really used the money.
Eventually she gave up because she could never make any progress with them and it started to seem to her that withholding the paycheck was being done purposefully.
Our question is, what would be the best route to take to get it, and is it even possible at this point in time?
P.S. Before anyone chimes and wonders why a dentist would be worried about a paycheck since they're supposed to be rich or something like that, this isn't always the case. Student loans are a fortune if you're almost any kind of doctor. Add to that sometimes severe mental health issues, our household relying only on her income as I go back to school full time and just the general state of things in the US has made living comfortably much more difficult, especially if you're a more recent graduate.
