Is it unprofessional for a company to cancel an interview an hour before???

So I had an interview scheduled on Friday. I spent time preparing for it that I could have used for finding other jobs, so I am a bit annoyed. The hiring manager cancelled an hour before saying that the position was fulfilled. It was quite discouraging to have it cancelled an hour before. Is this normal? Or is the company just unprofessional?
