is the older generation work ethic really that good?

I've been working in different areas in Canada for a while, and I noticed something: older generations seem to only work half their shifts (sometimes more, sometimes less) and keep chit-chatting between themselves, even chat on their phone, while younger people who just got in are expected to never leave their computer not even to go to the bathroom. I'm burning myself to the point of wanting to just lay down and stare at the ceiling when I get home, and then I see that all day.

Anyone else? Or is it maybe specific to my area?
