27 yo single Male, I have lived in New York my whole life and am self-reliant with no support, and I feel hopeless looking at these jobs offering $17-$20/hr in a city where the minimum needs to be $24 for the tri-state area. Corporate jobs are no better; they have high requirements for subsistence pay. Retirement will not exist for my generation; people live paycheck to paycheck, and starting a family looks more like a pipe dream. What is the point of working if you can barely meet your basic needs and can't afford to save a few hundred every month? I feel like I'm destined to die a work -Slave with no children, family, or retirement.
