Hello everyone, I live in Texas and have been miserably working at a BJ’s Brewhouse for around 2 1/2 months today. They treat their employees like shit (managers have literally bullied servers and bussers until they quit), the managers there are lazy tyrants. But yesterday was the last straw for me.
Upon entering the building for my shift I was asked by a manager to work the take out station because no one was on it that day (due to them all quitting bc of management). I agreed to do the job that I never applied for because I would’ve gotten paid $10/hr plus tips and get a free meal, it didn’t seem like the worst deal at the time. After working 5 1/2 hours at the take out station I was informed that they’d be unable to pay me for whatever reason but that they’d give me a gift card for BJ’s Brewhouse. I was pissed. I was even more pissed when I found out the gift card they paid me with was $25. The gift card they paid me with was only worth half of what I should’ve been making. I then went to a manager to ask for another $25 gift card only to be met with the response “you were never promised $25 dollars.”
Is this legal?? Is there any way I could be possibly hold them legally accountable for this?
