January 2022 I was hired to do inventory tracking. I had some experience but essentially built my own standards and collected my own data. My managers were impressed and always said I deserve more pay. It’s November 2022 and my direct manager got promoted and divided their work load to three people. I’m one of the three but I’ll be going from inventory handling to “day to day” things like getting the mail, and handling employee onboarding (I’m not HR) and handling the time card for the facility housekeeper who could be their own boss without me anyway.
I’ve established great inventory keeping for not having a ton of experience with it and now I’ll be handing over everything I’ve designed to someone I don’t particularly see fit enough to do it like I do and keep it organized the way I have. (Which I will have to train them on eventually too)
They haven’t offered me a new salary yet and my title would now be “office administrator” which IMO sounds like a complete downgrade. But everyone is always pleased with what I do but I don’t see getting the mail as a sign of a strong future to the company.
I like what I currently do and I don’t have an exit strategy because I was happy doing my job.
