Maybe I’m just at a new depth of burnout, or I just need someone to agree, but I wondered if y’all think this is a reasonable amount of responsibilities for a job.
To give context, I work in social media management and have 5 years of experience and a BA in journalism. My current company works in the mental health sector, which is almost comical due to the lack of benefits or support.
Here’s just a quick overview of an average week:
-
Create social copy that is optimized for 4 different platforms, including consistent hashtag research, videos, and graphics
-
Perform outbound engagement across all platforms to garner new follows and get our name out there
-
Write blogs between 1,500-2000 words with backlinking and search engine optimized
-
Create marketing materials for any new clients, including graphics, templated social posts for them to use, and hold training sessions for the less tech savvy
-
Proofread all copy written for the website, app, and any major emails written by others on the team
-
Participate in testing sessions of the website/app. Write copy for the platforms and have to create social posts on fly to promote new app features
-
Perform outbound engagement to find stories to share on our platform — including interviewing candidates, editing and captioning videos they supply, and writing a blog
I think that’s everything, or at least the stuff that sticks out the most.
The thing is, I make $40k a year for my experience and education. I was promised a raise in December but it never happened. I was recently promised a raise at the beginning of 2023 haha
Yet, part of me feels like I’m complaining over a normal workload but I’m so exhausted. And I also do contract work on the side to make ends meet, so some weeks I’m working 55+ hours.
I’ve been there for almost a year and have THIRTEEN vacation hours accrued. Thirteen.
Am I valid in my anger and frustration? And I am currently applying for other jobs!
