Soo ok this was weird. To start off I work two jobs( my last post was concerning one job, this is about the other.)
Im out on leave from my part time job, which was cleared and approved.
Today I get a random knock on my front door. It's a man in a pest control outfit. He asked if I was “my first name.” OK that was already odd. Not alot of people know where I live( past dv survivor so I don't really tell people where I live.) I thought maybe my landlord sent him. I asked why and he tries to hand me a white envelope that has my first and last name written in black sharpie. I asked what it is and he says that he doesn't know what it is. I asked who gave it to him and he said “I don't know who they were. They said to knock on your door and give it to you.”
I thought I was being served. I took the envelope. And he got out of there super fast.
It ended up being a letter from my part time job and a final check. It said I was being terminated for job abandonment, requesting me to mail my keys and info on unemployment.
It shocked me because I was on approved leave. And have only been out a couple days. Honestly I don't even care about termination because I know California is at will- they care fire me for whatever reason they want…. what I'm really mad about is how they went about giving me this paperwork. I live 40 minutes away from this job…they didn't FedEx this stuff to me or even ask me to come in. I don't think I was legally served anything, since I'm not being sued or anything. I reached out to the pest control company and was informed that he was working on my street and was approached randomly and asked to deliver the envelope. Is this seriously a legal way to give me these forms?? It has my full name, date of birth, social security number and my final check. Wtf this makes me so angry. They didn't even have someone from the company do it! It was just handed to se random guy!!
