Hopefully this is the right place to post this, I’m sorry if it’s not.
My job is doing a bowling event, with food. They asked us to RSVP THREE weeks ago with no information as to where it would be. I said yes because there is a bowling alley around the corner from my job and I assumed it would be there.
Over the weekend we get an email saying actually, it’s not going to be at that location, but in Times Square of all places. A very touristy place that I avoid mostly at all costs.
Now, it’s important to note I’m 8 months pregnant. They picked that place in particular because they want to drink and party, nothing I can partake in. I feel like backing out now except they THREATENED that if we back out now (as a good amount of us are trying because who wants to take the train to a high traffic/arguably dangerous area when there are perfectly good bowling places close to the job) that they are going to take A HUNDRED dollars of our hard earned money out of our check. Is this legal??? Can they do this?
They are saying it’s for the food they ordered, but there’s no way they spent hundreds of dollars on food. To me, this is bullying and totally unfair. And they should’ve disclosed the address when they asked us to RSVP. i feel angry and misled. And I DONT want to be forced to travel so far on the subway 8 months pregnant.
What do you guys think? Am I overreacting? And how do I go about this now? Any advice appreciated.
TLDR: my job made us rsvp to an event before giving us the address and is now threatening to take 100 dollars out of our check if we back out. It’s in Times Square and I’m eight months pregnant and no longer feel comfortable going.
