Hi all firstly, on mobile excuse and dyslexic so excuse errors.
I work more than 1 job and this is about my part time job at a local Chinese takeaway.
The business owner is a tight fisted chap, he makes very good money every night, but has terrible trouble keeping staff. He will do everything possible not to pay minium wage. (Because he thinks its too much)
For example he believes that delivery drivers will happily take £6.00 per hour plus £1.00 per delivery drop. Let's say that's 4/5 deliveries an hour that's £11 per hour, however that doesn't really cover the cost of fuel or ware n tare on the vehicle especially that in the UK petrol (gas for you Americans) is now over £1.55 per liter .
He always has a driver's needed sign up but when he gets enquiries people just laugh in his face when they find out the shit money.
Anyway he was doing his normal bitching to me about how NO ONE WANTS TO WORK ANY MORE (this happens every shift I work with him and to say I'm fed up is an understatement) and last night I lost it with him.
I say owner's name what the heck is wrong with you!? Would you work for £6 an hour? Plus £1 per drop for delivering food? How do you expect people to live off of that?
He replied that this should be part time work for people to do along their full time jobs (like you OP) to top up their earnings and that noone should expect to be able to live off of delivery driving wages.
Ok owner's name I said do you have another job? Do you work more than one place ? He replied with NO (lol) I'm providing opportunities for people like you to work so you don't go hungry.
At this point I'm fuming I said ok, we will get a customer's opinion.
In walks customer I said do you own a car sir? Will you help us out with deliveries this week? For £6 an hour? Customer said fuck no. (Also he was offended and turned round and left).
I told him when the likes of pizza hut and Domino's, Uber eats, just eat etc are paying more money per drop and/or an hourly wage to go with it plus more money per drop it's no wonder that you have bugger all interest in drivers shifts.
I told him point blank that everything is going up from food, fuel, rent, clothing etc even he's putting his prices up so it's unbelievable to think that his staff don't get a rise so they can keep on scraping by. Owners name it's not that no one wants to work, we do, people just don't want to work for you.
He refused to believe me, told me that minium wage is going up in April again but drivers aren't worth £9+ what ever it will be per hour…
Anyway I told him that if he wants a driver I'll do it for minimum wage per hour plus £2.50 a drop (which is his standard delivery charge that he charges all customers) he told me no that it's too much money to pay a driver… So he will look into using just eat and Uber eats drivers instead (which I told him already will cost him more money but he refuses to listen) so fuck him and fuck his cheap ass.
I hope his business fails I can always find more part time work at another takeaway.
