My foreman just gave me an hourly rate ultimatum.

Just to make this clear, I’m the owner of a busy construction company….I wish I was getting wealthy but at least we are busy. Today we finished a major concrete pour and after cleanup, he demanded $20 more per hour for a total of $50/hour. I provide lunch, fuel and job bonus (open book per job, if we make money (and we usually do) my workers get a percentage. I grew up in tough times in this trade (carpenter) and am still a little bitter at the greed from my employers. I asked him if there were any issues, he said “no” and I immediately transferred the extra $20/hour from last pay period to his account. Before I’m judged as possibly underpaying him, he’s older, from another country and doesn’t have a lot of experience but he’s reliable and a good human. These are different times….we have to treat each…
