There were two instances like this at my last job.
- they had a covid thing for a bit when it was the 10 day quarantine from work after testing positive. I had covid and asked if it was still 10 days if my symptoms got better and I was able to test negative…
They said no. Still 10 days.
So I said ok. I was very sick for about 3 or 4 days. Then my symptoms cleared up and since I wasn't allowed back at work PER THEIR OWN POLICY, I enjoyed my time off and worked on hobby stuff at home and did activities with my small daughter. There were photos of it on my Facebook.
Because, I didn't do anything wrong.
And when I got back, my program manager had made a comment about how it must have been a nice break. So I smiled and said, “yes! It was fun spending more time with my daughter once I felt better.”
Then the week I returned they announced to us that they decided to shorten the 10 day thing to 5 days if you are free of symptoms and test negative.
Situation two…
- my last job (this same company as above) was doing a thing called over staffing where if they were over staffed they went by a list that was decided by seniority and having a good standing.
If your turn came up and you accepted it, you got to leave and you can choose whether it is unpaid or if you want to use PTO.
It was fine for a bit and then I guess they decided we were being given too much freedom for getting these occasional chances…..
Because they just recently made a tighter rule list. If you get over staffed, you stay glued to your phone in case they want you to turn around and come back. You are to reply within 15 minutes to confirm you are coming back.
You get an hour to come back. If you do not, it is considered a no show and you get a final written warning.
So you still get “over staffing and sent home” but don't make any plans in case they decide to call you an hour later.
Like. What.
So happy I quit that job.
