This was the garbage reason I was given as to why I wasn’t allowed to work from my partner’s home 1 hour away. My designated days in the office were Monday and then the following Thursday, so I thought it was perfectly reasonable to plan events without taking off or asking permission. I brought it up casually to my coworker that I was going to drive to my bf’s city after work and work from his home office.
Long story short I was told on and reprimanded and given that reason. They fully expect to see my bedroom back drop every zoom call or else I’d be questioned. If I changed my location again they would “check my IP address”. When asked why this was the case, they said what if they need me to go in to the office in the case of an emergency…first off, I’m 2 hours away from the office, so there’s no way for me to “rush there”, and second, what emergencies are happening in the home decor design industry to call for that?
To make matters worse, when I interviewed they told me they only have 1 in office day a month. Now they’re upping it to 2-3 times a week. Call me crazy but I think this place sucks.
Edit: meant to say, even though I had 7 work from home days in between that Monday and Thursday, once they heard my plans they made me come in three extra days “just to rebuild trust”. Hence why my plans fell apart.
