After being made aware that I was not in fact entitled to breaks throughout my day, I began to research, to the best of my ability, the break laws for my state and those around me. Many if not all states, at least those around my home, only require a single 30 minute break after a full 6 hour shift, with no small breaks being written into law at all.
How is this legal in 2022?
You're telling me I can work myself to the bone in grueling heat, carrying rocks and lumber, and my only legal guarantee if a 30 minute break, just enough to provide my body with the basic necessities to make it through the last few hours of the day?
The basic human decency law should be a 10 minute break every hour and a paid 30-60 minute lunch. Because let's face it, even if we're “on our own time” we're still trapped to the bidding of our employer, location and decency of our employer, even once we clock out.
Are these just horrifically horrible states (TN and NC for example) or is it like this everywhere? Why is this not being petitioned???
