I’ve been miserable my entire working life until now

Ever since I started working at the age of 16 I've absolutely dreaded going to work. I've worked all kinds of jobs; grocery stores, sales floors, manual labor, customer service, etc. I never enjoyed any of it. I always was looking for ways to make work more enjoyable. Because of that issue I never stuck around for very long at any job. I would go from job to job just hoping I would get lucky and enjoy it. That was the routine until 2020 hit. I started dealing with serious medical issues about a month before covid took over. I did not work at all for the majority of 2020. Once I was able to start working again I was determined to change my circumstances. I was not going back to a job I hated. I have a deep interest in computers and technology. I've always been fascinated by it…

I've always been fascinated by it ever since I was really young. Taking apart and building computers and things like that. So I decided to get some certifications in some IT fields. I didn't think they would make much of a difference but I enjoyed it so whatever.

I spent all of 2021 barely surviving. I had no money to my name and only kept afloat with help from my partner. That is until November. I started applying for jobs I thought I would like but knew I was severely under qualified for. I was of the mind set that the worst thing they can say is no. That was until I got a call from a company wanting to bring me in for an interview.

The interview went great, and so did the second one. Few weeks went by and then I got a call from them offering me the job. The pay was 3x more than I've ever made. I was over the moon with excitement. I was still skeptical about the whole thing. I feared I would start and be in over my head or hate it all together.

Long story short this job blows my mind. Leadership is phenomenal. They show the employees a level of respect I have never had in my life work or not. Huge amounts of PTO, never need a reason to take PTO or sick time, I get to work remote if I so choose, and the entire environment is extremely laid back and calm. This job has completely changed how I view working.

I wanted to share this because it really changed my perspective on work life. Knowing that jobs like this exist is all the more reason to not accept anything less. TBH having a work-free life started feeling like a pipe dream and impossible. But this job has made me realize being happy and having work life balance is possible.
