Definitely a throwaway because my friends and coworkers use Reddit.
I work for a fast food chain with a certain clown overseer, and I struggle with chronic pain. This has been an issue before I started working and I’ve been with the place about two years.
So, we recently get bought out by another franchisee. I have a lot of sick time (35 hours, which if you do the math is well over ONE THOUSAND hours of work) piled up, but I have a bad fall (I was not at work) and am out of work two weeks. I figure I’ll use my time and at least get some money, only to find out it is GONE.
Nobody fucking told me this, and it’s not in our contracts, employee handbooks, and as again, nobody told me. I ask why (I was smart enough to record it, thanks one party consent) because I know that’s illegal but I didn’t tell them I knew that. They say we got fired then rehired over the course of a week, but my state has a reinstatement clause, meaning if you have your employment terminated then reinstated within 9 months, you are eligible for sick time.
So, after that, I also come to find out our new bosses want to run us on skeleton crews for the sake of efficiency. Their times do not account for human error or rude customers. I live near a big city, so our store is always packed, and they want us to run the store on… six people.
That’s right, six people.
So I think I’ll get in contact with a lawyer and see what they say about this sick pay situation and after that I’m quitting. I just hope this doesn’t turn out to be a hopeless fight.
