Job applications are infuriatingly ridiculous

So, I applied for a new job through an online website. This website has a PDF version of my resume which is submitted to the employer with my application. I received an email from the employer today, totally blank without any words at all, but with 2 attachments. 1st attachment had a Microsoft word document, wanting all my personal details, my education and employment history. Which can all be found on my resume which was submitted in the application. 2nd attachment was all about the company I've applied to. Firstly, why on earth do companies insist on making you repeat all the information you've already provided. My resume is on PDF and easy to read with all the information clearly laid out.

Their attachment is word based and an absolute mess to fill out with text boxes and tick boxes being used instead of paragraph fields.
Why do they employ staff to recruit, when they make you do their job for them, they could just copy my details straight across from my resume

Secondly, companies expect great communication skills from potential employees with professionalism nd politeness. So why on earth do they feel it right to send a potential new staff member a blank email without even saying hello, thank you for applying, nothing at all but 2 forms.

Side rant, what's the point in job websites making the application process as quick and streamlined as possible with 1 click applications, when the employer sends you forms to fill out which information you've already provided and now the process takes doublely as long
