Job I left in April is still causing me grief.

I was let go from a job I had worked for 4 years back in April. I essentially went scorched earth and deleted shared files, emails and any numbers I had in regards to the company. I received texts for about two weeks after my last day that I ignored. I had a 401k with the company that I didn't have the capacity to worry about while job searching, but now I've had my job for a few months and decided to just cash out my 401k to do car repairs. I submitted the request on the 28th of July, expecting to hear something within a weekish.

I had to call the retirement company today to ask why it's been over 2 weeks and I haven't received funds, and not at all to my surprise, the holdup is with my previous employer.

The retirement company approved my withdrawal and sent it to my old employers for final approval (which is already annoying, but whatever) on the 29th, and they could see that the request had been opened but was now just sitting in my previous employer's inbox.

So they've just been keeping me from closing my account for whatever reason. And this isn't a big company where my request would have been lost in the shuffle, this is a small family run operation with just over 50 employees on a good day.

I emailed HR and let them know I was available to file paperwork with them if needed but wanted to close my account and I got an email back at 830pm saying “Oh we approved it but I'll call them in the morning and check.”

Ultimately it's not a the biggest problem to have but it's annoying and frustrating, especially with how i was treated the last few months I was with them, it feels much more personal.
