I work in Florida, for context. In FL there is no law saying my last paycheck needs to be received by a certain time, unfortunately, but after working at this place for 5 years I saw a lot of employees come and go and their last paychecks consistently get “lost in the mail” (GM has even laughed about this with little air quotes, he's an asshole). I gave a notice but they were difficult the entire time, and even cancelled my direct deposit the day before payday so it would come to the workplace as a physical check. the assistant GM confirmed in a text that it was dropped in the mail last week, but I called Department of Labor in preparation just to get answers and they said wait one whole week and call back if it still hasn't showed up.
Yesterday was a week later, nothing. On top of it, they deleted my account on the paychecks website so I can't even pull up old paystubs?? Obviously I will call the labor dept again Monday, but I'll be honest- I'm kinda afraid of my bosses. They're alpha males with big lawyers and big talk. I don't have to worry about doing this, do I? Last thing I need is getting sued over something stupid because I caused waves. I just want to be done with this toxic place.
