So, I have started to look for a new job lately. I'm retired from the service so I can pick and choose where I work. I have also been in the food industry for close to 40 years in basically every position from dishwasher up to Exe. Chef/Manager. As I look around, I want something close to home, part time, but with a livable wage, or since it's Florida, as close as I can get to that. I fill out the online app, state my salary requirements at between 15-17 per hour. Just so happens a local store has quite a few openings, to which I can do all of the positions, as I am cross trained in them all.
Arrive at the scheduled time, and have to wait 1 hour. Interview begins. Seems to be progressing well, then we get to the part about pay. I'm told they will pay me $10 an hour. I just look at the person. I say no. They tell me that's what they pay, and then say's that they see my pay requirements, but they only pay 10-12 per hour, and that they need approval from the store manager for more than that.
Now I know that for store managers to get them large quarterly bonuses, they need to limit manpower hours, keep overhead down, and regulate pay, vs loss and spoilage as well as cost of sale. I see this ship is doomed to never set sail. I kindly thank the person, get up and leave. Paying wages this low is the reason they need a dozen people, as the pay everywhere in this area has risen to the expectations I stated.
