Thought you people might like this one. I applied for a job as an associate attorney with a small law firm in Boston with a pretty well known lawyer. His first email asked for my availability that same day, or the following day, for a “brief screening call”. I replied by saying I’m available the next day.
I checked my email the next day to see that a Zoom interview was scheduled. I was already at work (I’m currently employed) and did not have a suit on because I did not have court that day. I did not think it was appropriate to reschedule or cancel with such short notice, but I guess that’s what I should’ve done.
I signed onto Zoom from my car, as I did not want to do a job interview from my office in business casual attire. This attorney was almost ten minutes late to start the meeting but that’s not relevant. I immediately apologized for my lack of formality and explained that I thought it was a brief screening call like his first email said.
This guy SCREAMED at me. I legitimately thought he was joking at first. I’ve never been spoken to like this in my life, never mind during a job interview. He apparently was still interested because he said to get back to him with a time I can be appropriately ready for a Zoom interview by the end of the day or he’d rip up my resume. I told him to rip it up.
Lawyers are truly the scum of the earth and I regret becoming one every single day I’m forced to wake up.
