This is confusing, but here’s the story. I work for a large bank in the United States, as a call center rep. Company in Delaware. At the start of the pandemic we all started working remotely. In that time, I had to move out of state, and I now live two hours away from my office.
Sure enough, they want everyone back in the office now. I’ve explained to them that this kind of commute is not feasible for me, and have asked if there’s anything they’re willing to do to work with me, but nope, they expect me back in and if I’m saying I can’t make the commute anymore then they consider that my resignation. I have gone out of my way to explain that I have no wish to resign, but that is irrelevant to them. I now have today to make a decision and tell them I’ll be back in the office tomorrow or else I won’t be.
Honestly it feels like they’re doing it this way to screw me out of unemployment benefits
What the hell do I do here? I’ve reached out to my local unemployment office where the call center rep there didn’t have a clue, so I’m at a loss. Do I double down on saying I don’t want to resign but that I’m not coming in? Should I say I will come and then blow them off so that they fire me? This is just insane to me.
