I was working at a retail store for around 5 months when I needed to take a leave as I was hospitalized. I kept up with updates on my illness and doctors notes, but eventually they stopped replying and I fell behind while recovering from surgery. Its been about 7 months since, and I had to move out of the area to stay with family. I had assumed due to them not replying to me I had been laid off. I recently reached out asking for a letter of termination, to which they responded asking for a letter of resignation. I told them I hadn't quit and that I assumed I had been laid off. After a long phone call the HR team said they would discuss with their manager and get back to me. Its been a week since and I haven't received any response. I want to file for unemployment, but feel like I am getting strong armed into quitting instead. What are my options moving forward, and how can I get my letter of termination?
