Tldr at bottom
My employer that I recently started working for doesn't do “sick days”. Basically you work and if you're sick you call in and won't be paid for that day. However, if you are sick for more than one day, they want you to get a release from a doctor before your allowed to come back to work.
Now I travel all over the country. I don't have a primary care doctor because I spend a couple months here, couple months there, blah blah. But I also rarely get sick. Maybe once or 2 times a year.
Well, I had a stomach bug knock me down and missed 2 “optional” days and today. The “” are because you CAN say no, but only if you're from the area and have plans.
Anyways, the office tells me since I've missed more than one day, I need to be cleared by a Dr before I can return. A Dr which I have no insurance to help with. Because they haven't offered it to me yet.
So I call around and I'm being told from 170 to 251 usd just for a note that no one can read.
The office tells me It is a must and that I'll have to borrow the money if I don't have it… I have it. I tell them that if it is a requirement by them, then they can cover it. Long story short, after a little back and forth(the back being them telling me i needed to work out for myself and the forth being me telling them to bring all my tools to the front gate where i can pick them up), I am now allowed tocome back to work If I am feeling better. No note required.
Tldr- company wants me to spend hundreds on Dr note, threaten to piss off and they recant.
