Job will be completely void of power for one day but we all still have to come to work

Look I understand work is needed to pay the bills but I’m really struggling to find the rationale in this, and I would love it if one of you fine people can give an explanation on how this makes sense. I work in an office within several large offices and we will be down power for a full work day due to some electrical maintenance. This means no usage of computers or phones which is 99% of our jobs. We are still told we must come in and literally just sit there and look at each other. I hate socializing at work mainly because I’ve seen my coworkers true colors so I stay to myself but I was almost sick to my stomach when one of them suggested we have a food and chat day. I don’t want to even think about having to do that for 8 straight hours…

I hate socializing at work mainly because I’ve seen my coworkers true colors so I stay to myself but I was almost sick to my stomach when one of them suggested we have a food and chat day. I don’t want to even think about having to do that for 8 straight hours (as an introvert).

I’d rather spend the day with my kids or at home and upper management just NEEDS us to be there. I’m getting sick again thinking about it.

What would you do?? I’m debating just calling out of work but I already called out for a week this month due to a severe case of flu.
