Jobs that make you beg for reviews and treat you like garbage

I recently quit a server job after about a week and a half because it was hands down the most toxic and abusive work environment I’ve ever worked in. I’ve work at Hooters, Twin Peaks and in strip clubs and I’ve NEVER seen managers that carried on the way the GM and Bar Manager did. Pre shift meetings were the GM berating us for whatever was done wrong in a previous shift. He openly called people idiots, dumbasses and had a very condescending and rude personality. He took pleasure in putting people in the spot and shaming them. I have heard him say verbatim “I sleep better at night knowing I am screwing someone over”. When he was talking about a bad review he didn’t agree with. The absolute worst part was that they required us to ask EVERY table for a 5 star review that mentioned our name. The…

The office manager would go through Open Table, Google, and Yelp and tally up the amount of reviews we had for the week. At pre shift he would berate anybody with less than 4 for the previous week. It. Was. Mortifying. Witnessing it as a trainee, I was shocked he had anybody working for him. You can imagine the favoritism and turnover were both terrible.

Not to mention, how awkward is that for the guests??? The server with the most reviews each week literally made guests pull their phones out and write it then and there. And he was still treated like garbage. Yes, he was definitely a bit socially awkward and rude at times but the GM would be like “___ is an idiot but even he can get reviews” and the Bar manager would day things like “_____ you are an idiot and I can’t wait until you’re fired. I needed the money but it wasn’t even good and I left so fast. I feel bad for the people that work there but also cannot fathom why anyone that isn’t a favorite works there. There were also some questionable sanitation conditions in the kitchen at times and I considered reporting the restaurant/managers.

Most bizarre place ever. I wish people wouldn’t accept conditions like this. Everybody that seemed normal that I got along I asked “what the actual f is this place” they would just laugh it off and say that’s just how the managers are and they avoid them. Why???

I’m on mobile, sorry if that messed up the formatting. Thanks for reading !
